I had Olympic aspirations. However a fall from a balance beam and an injury to my back left muscles not working correctly for the next 35 years. I came to Parkhurst looking for a more holistic way to treat my reoccurring back problems. My back would stop working about once a year, and I was starting to have nerve pain in my hips. I would typically have to use muscle relaxants, bed rest and heat for 4-5 days then wait for however long to feel no pain.
This cycle just kept repeating itself year after year. Having a job that requires me to bend, lift, push, pull and walk, (I’m a nurse); I decided I needed a treatment plan aimed at prevention before my back totally gave out. So here I am; knowing I have a place to turn to, people who care, and an approach that keeps me out of bed and off of pills.
Can they give me my “back” I had when I hoped to make it to the Olympics? Unrealistic expectation; and I’m not as disciplined. However, I don’t have the chronic pain I thought was arthritis and would never be gone. I was having pain whenever I went from sitting to standing.
Parkhurst has offered lots of choices in how I want to manage my back health. It was important after so many years of non-treatment that I give different things a try, and realize there is no instant fix.
After taking the time to investigate; I now have a good idea of what works for my situation. I like that they don’t operate on an “everyone is the same concept.” I do think it is important to try the different options. It all seems to have a good effect for me, but there were certain things that were better suited to my situation. Decompression really helped with my nerve pain. The air back pillow has been a great help on car rides.
There is nothing like being out of pain. I was taking better care of the cars we drive than myself.
Am I cured? It is all a matter of how you look at it.
I now know there are ways to prevent the scary times of finding myself not walking. That to me will be a cure. Yes, I am going to have to listen to my body and keep it healthy just like I have to take care of my car. I am grateful for a new outlook on my situation and a plan to prevent those crisis times that were physically bringing me to my knees.
Thank-you to everyone at Parkhurst; who showed compassion, helped me with the paperwork and appointments, put up with my questions and uncertainties, helped me through the set backs.
This is what the Art of Healing is all about.

I sought out treatment with Parkhurst Chiropractic & Lakeshore Wellness Center for my lower back pain. I had suffered with this condition for over a year.
Dr. Brian was very helpful with a treatment consisting of cold laser treatments, decompression and adjustments. I would say the decompression and laser treatments helped the most; and I was feeling better the second week into treatment.
I was getting adjustments on a weekly basis and it just didn’t seem to get any better and stay better. Once I started cold laser and decompression I felt relief. Now I come once every 3 weeks to maintain my good health and I have not had any major problems since starting those two treatments.
I am very happy with the service and the caring I receive at Parkhurst Chiropractic & Lakeshore Wellness Center. Everyone is so friendly; I look forward to coming. I consider it my papering day!

“In December the nerve pain in my leg was so bad that I lost function in my toes. It ha been a long journey back to a pain-free life, but week-by-week, I keep getting closer. I can go about my normal daily routine with almost zero pain, thanks to spinal decompression therapy.

“I thought the best way to start this off would be to explain my previous symptoms. Lower back pain that would come and go (4-8), it came more than went. On a good night I would get 5 to 6 hours sleep; waking up to severe back pain (9) that with luck would reduce with movement to (0); not able to crouch down bending at the knees to do anything. My back was so stiff that it took 2 cycles in the massage chair, ½ hour massage and a treatment on the spinolater to get me loose enough for Dr. Brian to fully adjust my back. I was barely able to tie my own shoes. I also had two nerves that would get pinched quite often - 1 for the leg and 1 for the arm on both sides at various times.
Wow, what a wreck I was in. That was with getting adjustments when I needed to get them (anywhere from twice a week to once every couple weeks). That was very costly! After I got my first trial section on the Lordex® I felt fine. I came home, ate and went to bed early for an early day of work the next morning. As I was lying in bed relaxing flat on my back, my legs suddenly felt funny. They began to shake as if I was having a seizure. Then I felt something shift in my lower back. My legs started tingling; I got feeling back in my legs. I lost it so gradual I never knew it was partially gone.
I am now down to a 0 on the pain scale and I owe it all to Parkhurst Chiropractic and Lakeshore Wellness Center and their Lordex® decompression machine.”

“Before receiving Spinal Decompression Treatment, I experienced lower back pain for many years. Now with the new treatment of spinal decompression from Lordex® Spine Center things have changed for me. After the first week of treatments I noticed a big improvement. The treatments were painless and easy. About 30 minutes each visit for a determined period of time. Now that I am nearing the end of my treatments, I am feeling great. Thanks to Dr. Brian Parkhurst and the staff, they want to see you get better. All the treatments that I received were in the office that is very relaxed, comfortable and professional.
